Notifications
Polkadot Live provides a flexible, subscription-based notification system for monitoring on-chain activity across accounts, governance, staking, and the wider network. Notifications are delivered as structured event items within the app and, optionally, as native OS notifications. Events often include contextual links to external tools such as Subscan, OpenGov portals, or the Staking Dashboard, allowing for deeper inspection when needed.
In addition to traditional value-based subscriptions, Polkadot Live now supports real-time chain event subscriptions. These enable direct tracking of on-chain events as they occur, offering more immediate and granular visibility into blockchain activity.
Subscription types
Polkadot Live supports multiple subscription models to accommodate different types of on-chain data and update frequencies:
-
Chain event subscriptions
These subscriptions trigger when specific events are emitted on-chain. They can be scoped to the entire chain, a specific account, or an individual OpenGov referendum. -
Automatic subscriptions
These monitor on-chain values and trigger notifications as soon as a tracked value changes. For example, a balance subscription will notify you when an account sends or receives funds. -
Interval subscriptions
These are suited for slower-changing data, such as OpenGov referenda metrics. Updates are delivered at a configurable interval (for example, every 60 minutes) and may include information like current Aye/Nay vote percentages or referendum status changes. -
One-shot previews
Some subscriptions support one-shot previews, allowing you to fetch and inspect the latest data immediately without enabling ongoing tracking.
Available subscriptions
Subscribe directly to on-chain events as they occur. Subscriptions can be scoped to the entire chain, a specific account, or an individual OpenGov referendum. Events are dispatched in real time when the subscribed event is detected.
-
Chain-related activity
Subscribe to on-chain events in real time. Network-scoped subscriptions are unfiltered and capture every occurrence of the selected event. -
Account-related activity
Track balance changes, transfers, staking actions, and other events involving a specific account. -
Staking activity
Monitor staking rewards, validator exposure, commission changes, pool participation, and related staking events. -
OpenGov and governance activity
Follow referenda throughout their lifecycle, including key milestones such as decision deposits, voting phases, confirmations, and outcome-related events.
Subscriptions are available for both fully controlled and read-only accounts, enabling comprehensive monitoring even when you do not control the private keys.
Notification delivery
Whenever a subscription is triggered, an event item is always created and displayed in the main window. These items present structured, readable data and often include links to relevant external tools for further analysis.
In addition to in-app event items, Polkadot Live can also display native OS notifications in your desktop environment. These alerts are optional and fully configurable:
-
Globally
Native OS notifications can be enabled or disabled for the entire application. -
Per subscription
Each subscription has its own setting to control whether a native notification is shown when triggered.
This approach gives you fine-grained control over how you stay informed, combining real-time event tracking with flexible delivery options.
Looking ahead
The number and variety of available subscriptions is expected to grow as Polkadot Live continues to evolve. This will offer even more fine-grained ways to stay informed about activity across your accounts and networks.
